Spend vouchers, get rewards!

My purse is stuffed with loyalty cards, I’m a real sucker for them. Even if I don’t shop somewhere very often I sweep up their plastic cards promising to get me money off in future if I shop there often enough.

But loyalty schemes are a mixed bag; some are complicated such as tapping a code from a fizzy drink bottle into a website. Others will have you collecting for years but keep changing the goalposts when you get near your target reward.

The rate you get paid back also varies – some schemes pay back little more than 0.5% of what you’ve spent.

To get more mileage out of your loyalty points, did you realise though that with Clubcard Deals from Tesco you can cash in your points to receive a genuine treat that would have cost 3 more than the face value of the points alone?

Even though I’m not a regular Tesco groceries shopper, I have notched up enough Clubcard points on petrol or Tesco Direct toys and homeware purchases in the past couple of years to pay for TWO magazine subscriptions and TWO visits to London Zoo.

To give London Zoo as an example, I had around £7 worth of points which I could exchange for an adult entry ticket that otherwise would have cost £21.

Initially I was put off by needing to organise claiming my vouchers online rather than swiping the loyalty card instore but the Clubcard Rewards vouchers are despatched very quickly – mine arrived in less than a week.

A magazine subscription takes a bit longer to set up – you claim your magazine subscription voucher on the Clubcard Rewards site then the magazine contacts you to confirm when your first issue will arrive – typically 2 issues later.

Other Clubcard Rewards include vouchers for family restaurants, “experience” days out, hotel stays, travel. I’ve even heard of people saving enough to get their teeth whitened or whole courses of beauty treatments!

What would you reward yourself with?

  • I love the idea of getting your beauty problems solved by shopping st Tesco. I’ve just started collecting Nectar points, I’ve no idea what I’ll spend them on its hard enought to just remember to take the card. I admire your forward planning. GG

What a gorgeous blog you have! It looks practically edible (which I’m guessing was kind of your intention). It is always good to meet someone else who has been to Novi Sad. People don’t realise what a hidden gem it is.

It was good meeting you last night, although we barely got a chance to chat!
