Blue icing

Why blue?  Well one of my ideas is to do pale blue cupcakes for new babies (boys obviously) so I thought I’d practice some blue icing although I won’t be decorating them baby style as they are for The Big Lunch.

I was perhaps a big scant with the toppings here, I was trying too hard to arrange them artfully whereas I now realise that throwing heaps of topping on them gets better results.
Toppings used are:
mini marshmallows – arranged in flower shape
asda chocolate drops
asda white chocolate chips
Dr Oetker chocolate beans
Dark chocolate flakes from some shaky canister with four different sprinkles in it.
The surface on these is suprisingly neat for a first attempt.  I spent ages trying to get my icing right consistency and it’s just right – soft enough to put toppings on and keep them in place but sets hard afterwards.
