After so many years since our previous visit, there were things that disappointed us about Ré. Our return to Skipper was not one of them, the staff are very friendly, the portions generous, the decor cosy and casual. It was reassuring to go back and relive some holiday memories from our pre-Ted years.
There is plenty of atmosphere here, sat across from the harbour boats with their masts chink chinking in the wind. Lanterns and lighthouses decorating the interior without feeling twee.
It will probably be some time before we return to Skipper, but I can relish the memories both distant and recent of the evenings we have spent there. My quest in the meantime is to find oysters this good elsewhere.

Love Oysters Sarah. My fav anytime! The photos looks fantastic. Esp the lamb… sounds like a brilliant meal.
Ohhh OYSTERS… Looooove them… but also the nice memories they bring (like having lunch on a beach in Brazil, feet in the water, eating fresh oysters & drinking too much white wine, what a wonderful time we had). I'm happy to live in France now, where you can find them on every street corner, fresh, big, full of taste! (this is definitely different in my home country… the Netherlands). And believe me, when there is an opportunity, I'll eat them!!
And Ile de Ré is so nice! Ever visited Ile d'Oléron or Ile de Noirmoutier? Absolutely worth a visit too!!
Have a great weekend!

I adore oysters… in fact Tim Hayward has written a very interesting piece on them in the latest edition of Fire and Knives, well worth checking out!
