The high street is stuffed with Italian places to eat: Pizza Express, Strada, Ask, Zizzi, Prezzo. The total bill came to around £30 including three soft drinks. If you want to take lunch out somewhere a little more sophisticated than most high street chains, that is still child friendly, Carluccio’s is an excellent choice.
Two Charity Bake Sales
As I grapple with the technology overload that comes when you foolishly acquire a new computer, blogging platform and iPhone in quick succession, you may have noticed there’s not been a hell of a lot on the recipe post front lately. Not to say I’ve haven’t cooked anything, I mean a girl has to eat […]
Audition for Great British Bake Off
After receiving applications from “thousands” of people, around 30-40 had been asked to bring in actual food. By being interviewed by phone I’d already skipped over about 3 stages of the process.
Eat Pray Love film review
Eat Pray Love is a film starring Julia Roberts, based on the book of the same name by Elizabeth Gilbert. “Are you happy?” is a little question with big answers. If “yes” then that’s cool and you can roll back on the sofa with a glass of prosecco or pant your way round a squash […]
Butler’s Chocolate Cafe, Dublin
Last weekend whilst Maison Cupcake was whizzing through the air between Blogger and WordPress I was whizzing through the air myself from Birmingham to Dublin. Ted was safely despatched on Grandma’s boat for the weekend whilst Nick and I had two nights away as a joint celebration for our wedding anniversary and his 40th birthday. […]

New Digs – Moving to WordPress
Welcome to Maison Cupcake’s new home over at Wordpress. We’ve exchanged contracts, completed and the removal men have gone home. The new site has been up a couple of days but I was away on a jolly to Dublin at the weekend and it’s only now I have chance to unpack the last few boxes and rearrange stuff the way I like it.
Moving right along – Switching from Blogger to WordPress
Holidays are over and so is my August blog break. Although I’ve returned to Twitter sooner, I must admit to sitting on my hands to not post things in the past few weeks as my attention has been focused on entertaining Ted during the pre-school holidays, potty training and finishing the new WordPress site. Before […]
Apple Loaf Cake with Nuts and Chocolate
Aha! You thought I’d gone away for the summer but I have one last trick up my sleeve before taking my self imposed August blog break. I realised I still hadn’t entered English Mum’s Big Bake Off and that this Apple Loaf Cake with Nuts and Chocolate was just the ticket. This is the cake […]
21 great food styling tips from Alastair Hendy
Hot on the heels of my sponsorship by Irish porridge oat brand Flahavan’s to attend Cybermummy, I received an exciting invitation with an Irish flavour. It was to attend a food photography and styling workshop hosted by Bord Bia, the Irish food board, led by professional food photographer and stylist Alastair Hendy and taking place […]
Things that don’t come naturally to me: low fat baking and hot drinks
One more post after today then Maison Cupcake officially breaks up for summer. There are a couple of reasons for this, a) Ted is off pre-school so I have less free time on the computer, b) I want to finish my new WordPress site without the pressure to post new material at the same time. […]
